RE: exhaust question

even adding more back pressure as instructed by the clueless help at Flowmaster clueless, because backpressure is always bad. What is needed is the correct diameter pipe for the intended running rpms of the rig. Single 3 inch will have more bottom end, duel (sic) 2.5 will have more top end.3" diameter has 2.35 square inches of area. Dual 2.5" has 3.9 square inches of area. Ignoring surface loses for this, the dual 2.5" are too big for good low end power. Plus, true duals are inferior to duals with an x-pipe crossover or a properly sized single. True duals have gas congestion when two cylinders on the same side fire in sequence.

RE: Camping in a Bigfoot at 40 below in Alaska

Bigfoot doesn't have a 2000 series. Bigfoot 2500 series do not have bead board. They have expanded polystyrene molded between the two fiberglass layers. Propane doesn't freeze (might in outer space). At about -20°F it no longer evaporates in the cylinder from liquid to gas. This is partly due to its self-refrigerating effect as it evaporates in the cylinder.

RE: Oregon coast weather - long term wear effect.

Expect rust and moss. Rain is no problem unless you have a leak, and that needs to be found and fixed. Wax won't hide abrasion.

RE: Questions for 6.0 Ford diesel owners.

If this doesn't work, take it to a Ford truck dealership that sells light and medium duty trucks to businesses. They have much more experience than your nearby Ford lot.

RE: 4 pin twist lock to the 30amp RV plug?

4 pin male setup to the camper 3 prong femaleWhat? 30 amp RV service is 120 volts, and the 30 amp RV cord has a 3-prong male plug. The receptacle and plug are NEMA TT-30. One leg is 120 volt hot, one leg is neutral, and one leg is ground.

RE: Finding HWH oil

Lots of oil companies still product Dexron-III ATF, but they can no longer use that name. Look for ATF named D-M or M-D or DexMerc, or something like that which refers to the obsolete names Dexron-III and Mercon. GM isn't licensing that product...they're now recommending Dexron-VI in all Hydramatic transmissions, and TES-389 fluid in Allison transmissions (which IS Dexron-III with a new name). (By the way, Ford is no longer licensing anyone to make Mercon ATF.)

RE: Wheel bearing replacement

The bearings need to be clean and inspected, then replaced or just regreased as needed.

RE: Hayes Brake Controller

Buy only the Hayes Genesis. It is a proportional controller very similar to the highly regarded Tekonsha Prodigy.

RE: 50 amp plug

Either THWN individual wires in conduit or Romex UF cable (conduit optional, recommended if rocky), #6 gauge, 3-wire plus ground. The receptacle you need is the NEMA 14-50R.

RE: White Powder?

I use seven dust, a white powder. I sprinkle it around any ant hill I find and they track it back into the hill. I have also used a turkey baster to squirt it into holes where bees start a hive. The stuff has been around for years to sprinkle on garden plants. Don't tell the EPA that it works. Please use Sevin insecticide very sparingly. It is toxic to mammals and fish as well as beneficial insects like those bees that are essential for pollinating many of our crops and flowers. Here's more from Cornell University.

RE: rv refinancing

It sounds too good to be true. Be very cautious.

RE: Brake Question ????

What is the make and model of the brake controller? If you have a time-based system (and it sounds like you do), there is no way to make it smooth unless it is set so low that the truck does most of the braking...and that isn't prudent. The time-based systems have two controls. One sets the maximum braking level. The other sets how fast the braking effort increases while the brake light circuit is energized. These release with a jerk as soon as the brake light circuit is de-energized. Proportional trailer brake controllers are so much better....

RE: autoformer voltage regulator

The Autoformer works as described. It is very useful in sites with low voltage. To make the air conditioner easier to get started, the Supco SPP6E hard start booster works well. This item either replaces the present motor starting capacitor, or if there isn't already one, is installed to be the motor start cap. The hard start booster is not a replacement for the Autoformer. They work together well. Using both will allow you to run an air conditioner in some sites where other folks can't run theirs.

RE: Tight lug nuts on TV

Gene, The last shop that tightened those lug nuts didn't do it right. An ordinary socket and breaker bar with you standing (or bouncing) on the handle will loosen nuts tightened to 120 lbs-ft. Yours were way too tight. I'd suggest that in the future you insist on witnessing the torquing of your lug nuts. Tell them that you require to see each nut turn slightly before the torque wrench reaches the specified torque, 120 in this case. Accept no excuses or, "we always do it THIS way." The customer is always right, and you are the customer. Quietly, calmly, say, "No, do it my way."

RE: Propane Servicing

Motorhomes have heavy steel propane tanks that have been built to ASME specs (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). These tanks are bolted in place. Trailers have portable light steel cylinders that are built to DOT (Department of Transportation) specs. The only way I've ever seen propane cylinders filled is by pumping liquid LPG (usually 95% propane) into the cylinder while the bleeder valve is cracked open. When the bleeder releases liquid, not gas, the tank is properly filled.

RE: Tow Dolly Tire question

First, he's stupid. There are no tires with six plies of cord in the sidewalls, and the only tires with four plies are super stiff off road racing tires. You'll find tires with two or three plies, and that's good. What he said about trailer tires having stiffer sidewalls and being able to handle unique towing loads is true, but maybe unnecessary in your usage.

RE: Driver/Drill recommendation

First, go to a store with a good assortment and see which feels best in your hand...grip style, balance, etc. See if you are OK with the weight of the 18volt models.

RE: Interesting vehicle build news

Quality ratings by brand Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler all get 2 "quality circles." Don't buy these brands...just lease. Buy ones with higher quality ratings.
